Coil Wire Poping off distributor cap

I've had strange things going on with my truck, Curious what you guys think:

The Ignition coil wire (to the dist. cap) keeps popping off- I do live down a dirt road but it only happens after I turn it off (won't start again). The first time it happened I noticed a load ticking coming from my truck so I pulled over turned off the truck, opened the hood and there it was, the wire just dangling from the coil, not connect to the dist. Was the cap still getting the spark via some other conductor (engine block??)?? Was that the sound I heard?? I thought it was wierd. I am planning on just replacing the wire set, they weren't very quality wires. Anything else I should look at?

Check your buddies first. Sounds like someone may be having some fun at your expense.

if your buddies aren't pranking you., I'd suggest a new cap and wires. After a while they just wear out and won't hold any more.

I had the same problem and I Bent the tab in the wire out a little to get it to hold on the cap. mine kept popping of when I would go through sharp corners.

sometimes, you can push the wire in far enough that it feels like it's in there, but the wire has to snap into the coil. so pull the boot back up the wire so you can press the wire deep into the coil, and use a small flat screwdriver to push it down as deep as it can go. then carefully work the boot back down to the coil.

comming down a hill I HEARD a "POP" .. and the truck died .. poped the hood and coil wire on the cap came off .. plugged it back on .. and it never happened again with any of my trucks to date !!!

I`d say dont worry about it

the steering rod is probably pulling it off. When you turn it is probably catching on something like the U-joint or grease fitting. Make sure your wiring isnt hanging down too low. Use some zip ties to hold the wires up and out of the way if you have to....

ive seen this happen a lot at work. people do their own tume up and put too much dielectric grease in there and its very slippery. use some brake cleaner to clean out the post/socket and wire terminal and make sure wire is dry and secured in.
