20R Exhaust Manifold: HELP!
hello all, seeing if any of you could help me find an exhaust manifold for a 1980 Toyota 20r 2x4 2.2 4cyl.
I cant seem to find them anywhere, geuss thats how it is with a 30+ year old gem!
Thanks in advance! Long live the First GEN!

also ive read that the 20r has 1 center stud for the manifold and 2 for the 22r making them seem not as compatible.
If i can make that work let me know, otherwise im still on the hunt for a 20r exahaust manifold

Exhaust leak, 20r manifold on 22r motor
Im having a similar issue. I have an early 83 22r, it looks like i have a 20r exhaust manifold. The manifold hes a large gap where the gasket is so it may be warped...would a 22r manifold bolt in place? Finding a gasket would be easier to find and i could hopefully use the air injection block off plates rather than bolts...

The main difference between the 20E manifold and the 22R/22RE are the inlets for the fresh air injection system and the outlet port on the bottom of the manifold where it connects to the rest of the exhaust system.
On the 20R, the fresh air injection ports are facing upwards, towards the hood. On the 22R/22RE they are facing outwards, towards the drivers side fender, and are located just above the main exhaust ports. I don't have a good pic of the 20R but the 22R looks like this:
Shown with the air injection tubes installed.
The bottom outlet port on the 20R manifolds are a single port, while the 22R/22RE is a double port like this:
So that means if you go with a 22R/22RE manifold you're going to need a new headpipe with the double port flange to match up to it; more $ & work.
You can't use the 22R/22RE manifold on the 20R if it's used and genuine Toyota because the head flange is NOT drilled for it as tscheuch mentioned. You could find a decent condition genuine Toyota unit & drill the hole out yourself, or have a machine shop do it for you.
The exhaust manifold on my '78 20R developed a big crack down the center. I got a good used replacement from Yoda Jims in Colorado 3 years ago for $80 shipped to my door.
It came off of an RV model truck so it had low miles and was in really good shape, plus I didn't have to change out my headpipe to use it. Here's their website but they only take phone orders: https://www.yodajims.com/
However, if you'd rather just have a NEW exhaust manifold, Dorman does make a brand new replacement 22R exhaust manifold that will work because they drill out for the center stud hole to fit it on a 20R.
But you will need to replace your headpipe with the two outlet flange style pipe to make it work.
Dorman part # 674-272. Example:
There is pretty good value to this unit as it includes a new heat shield & bolts for it, all the gaskets, 3 new studs & nuts for connection to the headpipe, and a block-off plate pre-installed on the O2 sensor port. (see pics on product listing).
Also I've never heard a bad word about these units from anyone. They work.

Some partially false information in this thread. The 84 and down 22r heads share the same center bolt style pattern as the 20r. There are 2 different manifolds available in those years and will fit 20r. They are both hard to find uncracked, And hard to find without the 8mm bolts that hold the tube down not broken. I am not home right now, but monday when I do get there, I will check my stash. I did recently go on a binge getting rid of a lot of crap I have been carrying around for 20 years, But I will see if I have one. I think I have the heat shield and new white cushiony gasket ˟˟˟˟ for that style manifold that came with a kit I bought for my 82 engine.
