Ill be watching this good info in here I'm working on slapping a 5.3ls in my project 83 just waiting to find a cheap D60 for the front first

Awesome dude, if you have any questions when you delve into your project let me know...

Today, we didnt get the tranny mounted just yet but we got pretty far. We got the heater box out and cut the shifter hole longer. As we jacked the tranny up, the transfer case hit the tunnel, so we had to cut a small square out. Next we'll have to cut one identical for the trans to come up some more. after we have that mounted we'll weld sheet metal over them to cover it up.

I'm back at college again this week, so more updates and pictures this weekend. Still waiting on the fuel pump to come in as well.

ya vance I want to do another Toyota at a later date with the 5.3 most likely a 4 door runner for the wife. I didn't know you could use D60 and cheap in the same sentence...

cstone94 I had to cut almost the exact same hole in my floor to clear the tcase right along the seat mount. Just boxed over it too.

People have been getting them dirty cheap out around here like 100-200 an axle for front d60's it's crazy so ill just hunt around for a bit got my 14 bolt for 50 bucks. I could also get a ball joint 60 ford for 350 from a junk yard last resort tho.

Lovin that interior dude. I think I'll need to cut some more because the transmission + transfer case that were on the old crossmember from the chevy had 2 rubber mounts on between the member and the tranny. When we had it mounted we found out we had the crossmember 180 degrees the wrong way, and I also saw that we would need those 2 rubber mounts in order for the front yoke to clear the crossmember. Yay for cutting?

Quick question, what kind of front/rear differentials do our trucks have? Locked, posi, etc...

Depends. Stock probably an open diff. Unless someone has put a posi/limited slip or a locker in it already. Jack both tires in the air with tranny in neutral and spin one tire. If opposite tire spins opposite way as the tire your spinning it's open. If they both spin the same way it's locked or limited slip.

Yeah I knew that little trick, but I was curious and cant really do that since I was at college. Haha. Just making a summer shopping list! Lol.

Spool the rear best way to go for it! And yea stock is open.

Yep. Spool in the rear if its a wheeler! The strongest and cheap. I have a while till mine is ready to drive, but I'm gonna go spool rear in it.

What do you mean by spool? Weld the spider gears?

No spool is like 135 bucks it replace your carrier and spider gear and makes it one solid unit that has no failure points. I doubt any lunch box locker will be able to handle the new power this truck will have and detroits still will eat tires so either save money and go spool or spend big bucks on zip or arb lockers or do a Tacoma e locker swap.

Other then chirping tires around corners it's fine ice is a little sketchy untill you learn to drive with it other then that its fine. I dd my junk off and on just because I love it so much!

Welp the transmission is mounted! Tomorrow(Sunday) we are gonna weld the motor mounts in and hopefully bolt the motor in and possibly have it running! I'll take pictures/videos of it all tomorrow!

Travis, what motor mounts did you and your friend use? We the engine in and the mounts were about 5 inches far from the mounting holes on each side. I'm thinking I need Rod Style mounts.

I used the old chevy type mount with 1 bolt coming up from the bottom center. I built the mount plate to the frame with 3" channel and 1/4" plate welded to the end where the motor mount sits on it. I'm not sure what my brothers truck has. I'll go out and take a few pics and post them up tonight for ya.
