Yup, that was the problem. new intake manifold gasket and the baby is running like new. My manual does not have the vacuum diagram. I think I may have a couple of lines crossed. I think I have a haynes. Any ideas if the chilton has the diagram?

it might, but it's most likely not complete and will be rather frustrating to follow. you might be able to find factory info from techinfo.toyota.com, but it costs a little money(easy, download what you need then cancel).

congrats on getting everything running right!

thanks for the link but they dont go that far back. But i looked around and was able to get all the lines back where they should be. I am starting the brakes and have a question. Below the master cylinder the rear brake line enters into some type of valve. Is this the proportional valve. My rear brakes seem to be locking up when used. Before i change the master cylinder I want to make sure anything else cheaper is not causing the problem. I bleed all the braKes and still have the rears locking up. any ideas???

if the '78 is like the later trucks at all(i think it is), the proportioning valve is under the bed of the truck, above the rear axle.

I looked up there and did not see anything earlier today. I am installing new rear shoes. Got one done this afternoon. Kind off a pain in the arse. the second one should go much quicker.

I am looking for an Exhaust Mainfold Heat shield. If anybody knows where I can buy one that would help alot. I have searched and searched the net with no luck. I made a post in the classifieds so if anybody is reading this and may have one just sitting around collecting dust I would happy to buy it from him/her.

Are you planning on using the warm air stove? Thats the only reason I could think of to want the heat shield. The exhaust isn't near anything that needs to kept cool.

I have a factory manifold with heatshiled on my 77 that I'm going to be getting rid of in a few weeks. I've got no use for it.. you can just HAVE it.

I took that heatshield off mine, it was making awful rattling noises.
