don't think there's a whole lot of info out there these days! should be pretty much similar to your average 70s or 80s vintage hilux. engine is most likely an 8RC, one of the predecessors to the 22R(some parts even interchange), not a bad engine. parts are still readily available at most stores.

I have a '77 and it's hard to find old Hiluxes in scrap yards around here. I got lucky that mine had a 20R. If it's a question of maintenence it should be easy, if it's a frame up, that's a different story.

I see parts every now and then on Craigslist for 8RCs. I was looking at one of those trucks a while back and I found that parts stores still carry basic parts for those engines, but not everything. I have heard that any R series engine will bolt up, so if nothing else you could swap in a 22R. Try a Yahoo search. I have found a few sites with lots of good information on 8RCs and 18R engines. I think Wikipedia had some good links if I remember correctly. If your deal does not work out then I might be interested in that truck.

My dad has a nice one (think 70 or 72) in the cinci area. I'm sure he wouldn't mind to let it go. I could prolly get some pics, if someone was really interested.

I am in the process of building a custom 70. wanted to know if the FJ windshield rubber would work.

I have some 74 stuff I pulled at the yard. I could go get other stuff as long as it sits. It is a crush yard so time is limited. My 74 stuff is in the for sale section. Have more than I posted.

I have a feeling parts/info and experience on the pre 74 trucks will be more involved to locate. There weren't a lot of them imported to begin with. Cool trucks though, and easy to swap in more modern drivetrain/engine presumably.

The problem with pre 79 trucks is that they generally have over complicated bodies and can have weaker front suspensions by comparison. And parts are rarer. That being said, they're still simple and reliable (1974 on, can't say about pre 74). I see a clean old Stout driving about in the summers. Never seen a cooler pickup.
